Hi! I'm Christina, and welcome to my yoga YouTube channel, ChriskaYoga! For this 45 Minute Restorative Yoga for Back Pain class, we have a special guest, Dr. Melissa West from Yoga with Dr. Melissa West!
You will need a bolster or a stack of cushions for this restorative yoga for back pain class. Restorative yoga is wonderful for back pain. It will help to turn off the stress response to pain from the fight or flight sympathetic nervous system and allow you to access your parasympathetic nervous system so your body can rest and repair. By letting go of tension in the supported poses your body can begin the process of healing.
Restorative yoga allows you to receive the support of the earth and the props underneath you. It is the support itself that will create the release. Supporting your body completely with the ground and the props allow your body to completely let go and surrender. Restorative yoga will allow you to open to the tension and holding of back pain.
In restorative yoga, you open your awareness to where there is back pain, gripping and holding in your body. When you bring this into your awareness the pain and tension begin to dissolve release and let go with gravity and the support of the props.
Finally, when we focus on your breath in your lower belly you will experience space away from the stress and anxiety of being constantly in pain.
