Hi! I'm Christina, and welcome to my yoga YouTube channel, ChriskaYoga! This is a Yoga Warm Up with the Sun Salutations or Surya Namaskar. You can use these as a warm up for your current practice or current workout routine! They are great for generating warmth & heat in your muscles, which will help you to build strength and lose weight more effectively. If you do these with repetition, you can use it to burn fat as well.
The poses for Surya Namaskar A are mountain pose (tadasana), raise your arms (utthita hastasana in tadasana), forward bend (uttanasana), half forward fold (ardha uttanasana), chaturanga dandasana, upward facing dog pose (urdhva mukha svanasana), downward facing dog pose (adho mukha svanasana) and hold for 3-5 breaths, half forward fold, forward fold, reach up in mountain pose, and mountain pose.
The poses for Surya Namaskar B are fierce pose (utkatasana), forward bend, half forward bend, chaturanga, upward dog, downward dog, warrior 1 one the right (virabhadrasana I), chaturanga, upward dog, downward dog, warrior 1 on the left, chaturanga, upward dog, downward dog and hold for 5 breaths, half forward fold, forward fold, fierce pose, reach up in mountain pose, and mountain pose.
These sun salutes can be modified to meet your needs and specifications of your personal routine. They are a great way incorporate flow into your yoga classes (vinyasa flow yoga) and build heat in your body slowly and effectively. These are typically used in vinyasa flow yoga classes, but can be incorporated in other styles as well.
*Side note: the sequence of chaturanga, upward dog, and downward dog is often called "moving through a vinyasa."
