Hi! I'm Christina, and welcome to my yoga YouTube channel, ChriskaYoga! In this video, I briefly describe how to do a yoga handstand for beginners at the wall (adho mukha vrksasana). Please be careful when attempting this posture for the first time, and it might be a good idea to have someone to spot you if needed. However, once you get the hang of it, handstands are such a rewarding pose.
First, you'll need to come to downward facing dog pose (adho mukha svanasana), place your hands flat on the floor at the distance of your shoulders about 1 hand print (roughly 6 inches) away from the wall. LOOK DOWN towards the floor between your hands as this will help you! Step one foot forward about halfway between your other foot and the wall, press firmly into the ground with that foot and kick the other leg back towards the wall (this may take a few tries).
Once you kicked hard enough (be careful to not hit your heel on the wall) to get your hips over your shoulders, bring the other foot up to meet it on the wall. Hold for as long as you can, but no longer than a minute or two.
To come down, set one foot down at a time, and rest in a child's pose (balasana) before repeating the same steps with the other foot.
